The Pont-à-Mousson Basin and its surrounding areas were marked by intense clashes, bombardments, and violent battles as part of the offensives carried out on Lorraine territory.
A poignant journey through history
Between Pont-à-Mousson, Thiaucourt-Regniéville and Bouxières-sous-Froidmont, the Lorraine landscape still bears the scars of the First World War, offering visitors a poignant journey through history.
This sector, the scene of fierce fighting, notably during the Battle of Bois-le-Prêtre, is marked by remains that bear witness to the sacrifice of soldiers, including the famous "Wolves," elite fighters who distinguished themselves by their bravery in the face of enemy forces. These soldiers, often from chasseur regiments, faced merciless trench warfare in a region where the land was plowed by incessant bombardments.

More than a century after these clashes, monuments, military cemeteries and restored battlefields allow us to relive this tragic past and honour the memory of the men who fought and fell on this land.
The now preserved Bois-le-Prêtre offers a striking setting where nature seems to bear the traces of past struggles, and where commemorative plaques recall the sacrifices of the "Wolves" and their comrades. This remembrance tourism invites everyone to reflect on the horrors of war and to pass on the memory to future generations, while discovering the beauty of our region marked by History
Pierre Defontaine ART GEthe American military cemetery of Thiaucourt
An essential place of this memorial heritage is the Thiaucourt American Military Cemetery, which contains the graves of more than 4 American soldiers who fell during the First World War. This cemetery, majestically situated on a hill, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley. The rows of impeccably maintained white headstones pay tribute to these young men who came from across the Atlantic to defend freedom.
Overlooking the site, the Montsec Hill Memorial, erected in 1932, pays tribute to the soldiers of the 1st American Division who fought and lost their lives during the offensive on the hill in 1918. This impressive memorial recalls the value of sacrifice, while its obelisk dominates the landscape, testifying to the courage of the American troops.
