The Pont-à-Mousson Basin: a territory reinventing itself to meet new tourist expectations
Since September 1, 2024, the Pont-à-Mousson Basin Tourist Office has begun a new chapter in its history. Having become a Public Establishment of an Industrial and Commercial Nature (EPIC), it is pursuing an ambitious strategy : to make the territory a popular, authentic, and experience-oriented short-break destination.
The Pont-à-Mousson Basin comprises 31 towns and villages, over 40,000 inhabitants, a strategic geographical location between Nancy and Metz … and an offering that remains largely unknown. To address this, the Tourist Office is rethinking its positioning around a vision more in line with today's aspirations: local, responsible, human-centered, and rejuvenating tourism.
A new clientele, new expectations
The profile of our visitors is changing. A younger, more active clientele, seeking meaning, is complementing our regular customers. They are executives, city dwellers, families with children, living in Nancy, Metz, or more broadly in the Grand Est region. What do they want?
Take a break of 3 to 4 days, without going far, to breathe, slow down and reconnect with nature and loved ones.
These new expectations are shaping the contours of an "experiential" tourism, born from the health crisis, fueled by ecological, economic and social concerns.
A strategy based on 5 pillars
To structure this repositioning, we have identified five major promising themes, linked to the most popular searches on the Explore Grand Est platform:
- Nature & Outdoor
- Bicycle tourism
- Craftsmanship & know-how
- Memory tourism
- Industrial tourism
These are all entry points to showcase a rich, genuine territory, conducive to both disconnecting and discovering.
A territory of cooperation and the future
In a competitive environment where major destinations have substantial resources, our strength lies in cooperation. That's why, starting in 2025, we joined forces with the Mad-et-Moselle Community of Municipalities to develop inter-territorial tourism projects together: pooling resources, co-creation, expanded offerings… A winning strategy to reach a wider clientele and optimize our resources.
