Description
From December 13 to March 2, the municipal museum presents to the public the exhibition "War and Images: Popular Imagery and War"
Popular imagery emerged as a key vehicle for informing and mobilizing the public, both at the outbreak of war and during its commemoration. Image-making centers seized upon the subject, publishing images depicting battle narratives, but also—and perhaps more importantly—paper games and toys designed to educate children about the war.
The imagery of Pont-à-Mousson contributes to this fervor, often imbued with patriotism, by disseminating, through the productions of the Haguenthal and Vagné workshops (father and son), a significant quantity of images devoted to the theme of war.
This is the subject addressed by the new exhibition at the Au fil du Papier museum in Pont-à-Mousson: delve into the history of this close relationship between war and its representation, while exploring how popular imagery seizes upon and transforms it.
