Description
The Friends of the Old Country Museum is located in the partially restored medieval castle of Dieulouard. It displays Gallo-Roman remains from the Scarpone site and the reconstruction of a small Gallo-Roman tiled burial cemetery.
The great Roman road from Lyon to Trier via Metz crossed the Moselle at Dieulouard, the ancient Scarpone. This settlement, built on the low alluvial terrace, was divided into islets, connected by stone and wooden bridges, and remained a strategic location for crossing the Moselle in the early Middle Ages.
